This course doesn't just explain theory it gives examples and useful rules for creating melodies that will have you writing more memorable melodies quickly!
It starts with the building blocks of melody; scales and intervals –one of the most misunderstood parts of music theory. This is broken down into scale degrees, generic and specific intervals and importantly the musical effect that these scales and intervals have – ie how you can use the natural tension and release in scales to form melodies.

Robbie James is a multi-instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, saxophone and guitar) with a Bachelor of Music and Masters of Teaching. After studying jazz he became started applying his theory and composition knowledge to production and started using Ableton Live (and Push) to create music for film, games, theatre and more, including work in festivals like Melbourne Fringe, White Night, Canberra’s ‘You are Here’ festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.
He currently is the the music technology specialist at the European Secondary School of Brussels where he teaches electronic production and composition using Ableton Live and Logic.
